I am so delighted to invite you to the second zoom event for our new group - Local Authors Book Group - to be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd. Since the event is on zoom, please note that the link will be sent out on that day prior to the event, possibly as late as 1 pm. If you are not on the email list(s) for our book groups, you may request the link from me at auntiesbooks@gmail.com, but please do so before 1 pm that day.
Our guest this time out is local author Chris Bieker. Since this is our second event in this series, it is altogether fitting that she is presenting her 2nd book in the Rex Begonia series, titled Blood on Bloomsday. Copies are available on Auntie's shelves as I write. (Please note that this book cannot be returned.) Be sure to request your 15% book club discount when you purchase your copy!!!
To whet your literary whistle, here's a description of the book as well as my review. See you on Nov. 2nd! Linda
Description: The Lilac Bloomsday Race brings worldwide competitors to Spokane to run in one of the largest, annual, timed road races in the nation. Despite his better instincts, solitary Detective Rex Begonia gets recruited for the Spokane Police Department's corporate cup running team. That's just the beginning of the teamwork as Rex and his partner Ivy Lizei join forces with wildlife officers, tribal police, Border Patrol officers and more to solve a murder and an international smuggling operation. Rex finds himself caught up in a double Bloomsday -- one in which he participates in the Lilac Bloomsday Race and a second in which he is in a race for his life.
My Review: This is the second release in a series by Spokane author Chris Bieker. Anyone who's read her first outing-- Murder at Manito-- already knows what a funny writer she is and will be tickled to revisit these entertaining characters with outlandishly quirky names. I mean, just saying "Detective Rex Begonia" gets me every time. There's always a challenging mystery at the heart of the story, though, so be prepared to put your thinking cap on and get ready to see if you can figure out "who done it?" before they do. Good luck!
