Independent Bookstore Day 2018!
Please join us to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day 2018! We will be joined by local authors and businesses from 11 AM to 4 PM! In honor of Indie Bookstore Day we will be featuring exclusive merchandise in-store only.
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (Easel on display until 4 PM): Spokane Art School - will be joined by Katey Mandley, displaying an 8-foot easel in-store for an impromptu drawing and art session! Katey Mandley has recently finished her Master's in art education. She has been a working artist showing locally and in Canada ever since graduation from Gonzaga in 2003. In 2004, she worked with the painting professor as a fellowship recipient. Katey loves painting and drawing and enjoys encouraging the young artist.
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Jeremy TeGrotenhuis - will be making "exquisite corpses" with you. He'll start with the head of a magical creature, you continue with the torso and he'll finish with the legs. Jeremy recently accepted a first place award for Writers of the Future and will also sign copies of Writers of the Future Vol. 34. If you stop by his table, you'll also have a chance to win tickets to Lilac City Comicon!
11:00 AM - 3:00 PM: Book Drive for LC Library - Help Lewis and Clark High School's library and support local business at the same time! Awesome LC students will be here peddling books on their library's wishlist. If you donate a book from their list, we will extend the educator's discount (15%) to you for the day.
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Chris Cook - challenges you to name any Yo-Yo trick he can’t perform! Chris is the former Washington State Yo-Yo Champion, as well as Northwest Yo-Yo Champion. He spent two summers touring Hawaii, the West Coast, and Belgium as a professional yo-yo demonstrator for Yomega Corporation, a manufacturer of high tech yo-yos. He was first published not for his poetry, but for a book called, “Collectible American Yo-Yos” (Collector Books, 1997). Chris’s collections, “Damn Good Cookie” and “The View from the Broken Mic” are available in-store for purchase.
11:30 AM - 1:30 PM: Joseph Haeger Let’s Write a Story Together - Joseph wants to write a story with you! Hosting “Let’s Write a Story Together”, Joseph will have postcards with the first sentence of haikus, poems, and stories written on them. He’s inviting you to work with him to finish these stories. Postcards will be addressed to participants and mailed to them following the event.
12:30 PM - 1:00 PM: Spokane Civic Theatre’s Hello, Dolly! Cast - will be joining us singing a selection from their upcoming show, Hello, Dolly! (Performance dates at Civic Theatre: May 18 - June 10, 2018)
1:00 PM - 3 PM: Trent Reedy - will be in-store to promote his forthcoming book, “Gamer Army”! Equipped with a Nintendo, Trent will be ready to take on any challenge Indie Day has to offer!
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Darcy Lee Saxton - author of “When Colors Meet”, will be displaying artwork and creating on-the-spot contour-line portrait drawings for Indie Day attendees!
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM: Signing with Chelsea Martin - will be displaying and signing copies of her book “Caca Dolce: Essays from a Lowbrow Life” released by Soft Skull Press. Chelsea is the author of “The Really Funny Thing about Apathy”.
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM: Devin Devine and Tony Russell - will be in-store with their typewriter taking poem requests! Customers are welcome to talk and type poetry with Devin and Tony, co-authors of crime-noir series, “Kiss the Messenger”.
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Signing with Sam Ligon + Kate Lebo - will be displaying and signing copies of their book “Pie & Whiskey: Writers Under the Influence of Butter and Booze” released by Sasquatch Books. Samuel Ligon is the author of two novels, “Among the Dead and Dreaming” and “Safe in Heaven Dead”, as well as two collections of short stories, “Wonderland” and “Drift and Swerve”. Kate Lebo is the author of “Pie School: Lessons in Fruit, Flour, and Butter”. Both authors are based in Spokane, WA.
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Annica Eagle Punning with the Punderground - Select from a menu of punning challenges to pose to Annica Eagle, aka 3rd punniest in the world (2017) and the founder of the Punderground. Guaranteed pun and shenanigans!
