Spokane's Literary Landmark...Your Personal Bookseller
In need of a new book? We have tons of suggestions!
We host a free storytime in the children’s section every Saturday at the main store at 11:00 a.m. Sometimes we have authors come and read a story, sometimes we just have storytime, and sometimes we have stories and a craft. You never know what we’ll be doing, which is half the fun! Check our Events calendar for more details on upcoming events.
Auntie Violet
The one and only Auntie Violet reads to children once a month at Auntie’s. Come down and get a taste of her purplicious storytelling. We promise you’ll be enthralled! Check the Events calendar for her schedule.
Private Storytimes
If our regular event times don't work for you, a private storytime may be arranged for groups of ten or more. We ask that you give us two weeks notice for scheduling purposes.
Angel Tree
At Auntie's Bookstore, we believe that every child deserves books for Christmas. For the past decade, Auntie's customers and staff have generously made sure local children in need of holiday cheer have received it. Here's how it works: children's names, ages, and types of books desired are collected by local charities and given to us. We put the information on paper angels hanging from our in-store Christmas tree. Then, customers and staff choose angels and purchase books for the children. When an angel is chosen, a gold star with the donor's name goes up in its place. Can't make it in to the store? We welcome donations to the Angel Tree Project all year round.
Success by Six
In conjunction with KHQ-TV, Auntie's is a proud sponsor of the Success By 6 program, which focuses on getting kids ready to learn by the time they are six. In addition to collecting books for the project in our little red wagon, Auntie's offers 10 percent off books donated to this program. Success by Six also gives every new mother in Spokane County a "Parent-Baby Reading Kit" to encourage reading to kids. Each June, KHQ-TV and area bookstores collect books to stock the shelves at the Success by Six warehouse. Currently, the book bank is in dire need of board books (those with hard pages for babies and toddlers). Auntie's is always delighted to collect books for this worthy cause so feel free to bring in donations of gently-used children's books at any time of the year. And remember: board books are desperately needed.
