Bio
What would my perfect day look like, you ask?  Well, the perfect day for me would involve loading my backpack full of books- I would need one book to make me laugh, one to make me think, and one to teach me something new…you see my mood changes quite often- climbing to the top of a quiet mountain, plopping myself down amongst the trees, and reading all day…oh, and I’d need a bag of chocolate chip cookies too…then it would be perfect.

This has been one of my favorite books since I was a wee child.  My first grade teacher read it to our class and I don’t think a room full of 6 year olds has ever giggled so hard…even though we were a little scared of the other giants who love to eat little kids!  I still pick it up whenever I need a good giggle.

If you want to be inspired, read this book!  Mountains Beyond Mountains chronicles the work of Paul Farmer, the founder of Partners in Health, as he works to eradicate tuberculosis in the world’s poorest countries.  Every time I read this book, I feel renewed and know that all individuals can make a difference in the world…even if we don’t have the astounding stamina of Paul Farmer.

I never know where to start when describing this book.  It left an impression on me I can never quite describe.  It’s at different times crushing and uplifting.  Basically, it’s a story told from the perspective of a young boy who is searching out the truth after his father dies in 9/11.  Foer uses a lot of different techniques in this story to build emotion and perspective on Oskar’s “heavy boots”-as he calls being upset.  In the end, I think it offers an interesting perspective on how we all deal with tragedy in an individual way.

Only the funniest book EVER!  What could be funnier than a pigeon that screams at the top of its lungs because you won’t let it drive the bus?!  I could read this out loud over and over again…and if you ask me to, I’ll happily do it for you.
