Stephanie Oakes Book Launch - "The Arsonist"
Two years ago we had the pleasure of hosting Stephanie Oakes for the launch of her debut novel, The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly. The event was a blast, engaging readers with the eccentricities of cult life, murder, and fairytale renditions. We are delighted to announce that Stephanie will be back at Auntie's to celebrate the publication of her new YA novel, The Arsonist.
Molly Mavity, whose father is a convicted murderer awaiting execution, is on the hunt for her missing (presumed dead) mother. A mysterious package leads Molly to Pepper, a Kuwaiti immigrant with epilepsy, failing grades, and a quirky canine. Together, the two teenagers must solve a decades-old mystery: the 1989 murder of Ava Dreyman, a resistance fighter in East Berlin.
Diversity and mental illness are two gripping themes that resonate throughout the pages. Poignant moments, witty humor, and complex first-person narratives make this novel a wonderful breath of fresh air.
Code Name Verity meets I Am the Messenger in this riveting YA novel from Morris Award finalist Stephanie Oakes, in which three points of view are woven together in a story that's part Cold War mystery, part contemporary coming-of-age, and completely unputdownable.
